Canal Holidays in Scotland
For the finest canal holidays in Scotland and to
experience the magnificent Falkirk Wheel, a visit to Scotland’s ‘newest’
canal is a must. Our modern fully equipped 6 berth canal boats offer all the comforts of home – without the pressures and
hassle. Pets are welcome.
There
is no better location to take a canal holiday in Scotland than on the
Scottish Lowland Canals. In the space of a week you can visit both Edinburgh
and Glasgow and pass through the Falkirk Wheel – one of the most spectacular
engineering feats on the UK canal network and the only rotating boat lift in
the world. The wheel joins the Forth and Clyde Canal to the Union Canal. The
Forth and Clyde is a sea-to-sea canal linking the east and west coasts of
Scotland and the Union is a more traditional narrow contour canal meandering
its way from Edinburgh until it emerges from a tunnel at the top of the
wheel. There is no charge for passing through the Falkirk Wheel.
A canal holiday in Scotland is quite different from what you may have
experienced elsewhere. The canal system is both peaceful and tranquil with a
minimum of boat traffic and often only the swans for company. Most
holidaymakers remark on how helpful British Waterways staff are in helping
to ease your passage and provide information.
Nowhere else on a canal holiday in Scotland can you sail into the heart of
two major cities, cross mighty aqueducts, pass through tunnels and visit
ancient palaces. You can stop off for some shopping or exploration in the
old burgh of Linlithgow or visit one of the canalside bars or restaurants in
the newly opened multi-million pound Edinburgh Quay development.
So, whatever your taste, when it comes to considering canal holidays in
Scotland, the Scottish Lowland Canals offer you the most.
It
is important to us that you both enjoy your holiday and that you
do so safely. So our handover of the boat to you is both approved
and audited by the British Marine Federation. Before your holiday
begins we will provide you with detailed information and when you
arrive at our base at Falkirk personal instruction and further
advice will be given. Buoyancy aids are provided at no cost to
you. All this means that we welcome beginners as no previous
experience is necessary.
